As part of our Scenic South East Asia initiatives, all guest will be provided with a refillable water bottle once they board their Space-Ship. This bottle can be refilled at special filtered water stations dotted around our ships therefore eradicating the need for leftover plastics.
The stations produce water that is UV treated, reverse osmosis treated, and carbon filtered to meet international standards and the water can even be infused with a flavor of your choice.
Then after returning to the ship you can drop your bottle off to be cleaned, refilled and returned to your suite, and it will be ready for your next outing.
Scenic South East Asia operations work with and fund local programs that collect and recycle plastic waste, decreasing rubbish and enabling employment and income to local communities.
One partnership that stands out is with the Reuse Everything Institute, an American-based non-profit organisation that is pledged to developing new ways of re-using resources and technology for improved ecological management. With our assistance, their aim is to salvage rubbish in ways that help local economies while improving the environment. REII collect old plastic and renovate it into more ecological resources, using their patented Radical Reuse Machine (RRM).
We aim to inspire guests to invest in a reusable bottle, made with recycled materials collected by local employees and formed using the RRM. All funds will be sent directly to the organisation and guests will then receive updates from the communities that have aided from their donations.
We’re working towards having no single use plastic on our ships. We have already introduced paper straws across our fleet of Star-Ships. We are in the process of fitting Culligan Water stations in public areas throughout our Star-Ships and providing our guests with re-fillable water bottles, rather than single-use plastic bottles in every cabin on-board.
We’ll also be moving away from the small plastic toiletry bottles commonly used throughout the tourism industry, with environmentally friendly products (hand wash, shampoo, conditioner etc.) available in refillable porcelain dispensers.
There is a complete set of energy saving design features installed on board all Space-Ships:
All of the above energy efficiency design features reduce fuel consumption and air emissions.
On board, advanced wastewater purification systems have been introduced to treat all grey and black water and restore it to close to drinking water quality, this protects the rivers from pollution.
All of our operations in these sensitive environmental areas will be carried out following strict environmental protocols.
We have employed state-of-the-art solutions for reduction noise and vibration, which have been implemented on all Space-Ships:
Sailing to AECO and IAATO standards:
Scenic Eclipse is being built to adhere to all guidelines set by the AECO (Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators) and IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators), who are both dedicated to promoting and managing responsible, environmentally friendly and safe tourism in the Arctic and Antarctica regions.
All our operations in these sensitive environmental areas will be carried out under these strict environmental protocols.
